The Incorporated village of Port Jefferson lies directly on the North Shore of Long Island halfway between New York City and The Hamptons. Originally a thriving seaport, Port Jefferson has made the perfect transition to a restored bustling seaside community. The historic downtown area houses many interesting shops, boutiques and fine restaurants. The Village is a popular destination for tourists and offers many exciting cultural and recreational opportunities in a cosmopolitan setting. The Village is serviced by the Long Island Railroad with a direct line to New York City. There is also a car and passenger ferry to Bridgeport, Connecticut giving easy access to New England.

The Village has an active historical society, a spectacular 18 hole golf course, beautiful beaches and an active community theater. The Village is known for its high quality school district and beautiful restored Victorian homes. The real estate market consists of affordable rental properties, together with condominiums, ranches, capes, colonials and restored antique homes. However, if one is seeking the quieter side, consider the peaceful incorporated village of Belle Terre on the outskirts of town.
